The Guardian interviews Bo and other educators for positive story on BDSM and Fifty Shades of Grey

February 11th, 2015 // 1:49 pm @

The story is called:

Fetish lovers begging for freedom: ‘Fifty Shades of Grey is our Stonewall moment’

and starts out with:

“The success of Fifty Shades has opened a Pandora’s box of curiosity into edgier sexual practices, leading some in the kink community to argue that that it’s crossroads in a civil rights struggle”.

the-guardian1 It’s a refreshing story written by Kim Wall an attendee at last years BDSM Writers Conference.

The title of the story points to an idea my good friend Susan Wright from NCSF and I came up with years ago when we had lunch together at a BDSM conference in NJ. We both believe that Fifty Shades of Grey is a “stonewall moment” of sorts for our community.   You can read my thoughts on the subject in this post from 8/2012.

The story also quotes another good friend and founder of the BDSM Writers Conference, Dr. Charley Ferrer. This is a great event that I will be attending again this year in August. You don’t have to be a writer to attend, there is a great deal of BDSM education and it’s held in NYC yearly.
